St. Augustine's celebrated World Book Day this year by
dressing up as our favourite book characters. Characters ranged from "Where's
Wally?", Desperate Dan and Pocahontas to The Very Hungry Caterpillar (and even
his food!). The Cat in the Hat and Harry Potter were popular themes - it was
difficult to tell the staff from the children!

At 2.30, parents and grandparents joined us for "Books and
Biscuits" and it was absolutely
wonderful to see so many people reading to the children, listening to children
read their favourite books and stopping off for refreshments. There was a great
buzz all around the school and the children certainly appreciated this part of
the day.

James took some time to read more of his latest home reader to his mum!

Alicia read her favourite book.
Alice took to the library to read with her mum!

Mr Mcvittie read with Luke, or is that a cat?
Many thanks to all who contributed to making this such a fun
day for the children, particularly all those hardworking parents who wowed us
with the amazing outfits. Bring on World Book Day 2013!

Is that Olivia or Spongebob reading with Mum?
Some comments from parents and children on the day:
"My favourite thing was having a parade. I saw four Hermiones, including my teacher. I saw a lot of people dressing up. The best thing was parents!"
"James leapt out of bed at 6.30 this morning - it's not like him, but he just loves dressing up."
"Fun, glorious, wonderful, lovely!"
"I loved it when I read with my mam and dressing up as Dorothy."
"I liked it when we had the parade and I would have liked to just read all day long."
